Winter Shoe and Boot Care

Posted by Melynda . on

Now that we are in the heart of winter and the snow is falling all around us, you may be wondering how to get rid of those dreaded salt and water stains from your leather shoes or boots.

Here is a simple diy method that works very well:

mix one cup of cold water with one tablespoon of white vinegar

use a clean bit of cloth to rub away any salt stains

use a fresh water-soaked cloth to wipe away any excess vinegar

stuff with newspaper or a shoe form (if you have one) to maintain proper shape

allow to air dry (using a heat source of any kind will dry out the leather)

If you would rather skip making your own cleaning mixture, use this kit from Ugg which includes a cleaner/conditioner, protector, freshener, and brush.

To protect from future staining, use a quality leather conditioner such as Frye Weatherproof Dressing.
